A proud moment: Business Person of the Year!

Melton BID - Business Person of the year 2026

I’m thrilled to share that I won Business Person of the Year at the Melton BID Business Awards 2026!

Shocked doesn’t quite cover how I felt when my name was called. I’ve never really thought of myself as a “business person”.

I’m someone who loves what she does, cares about her community and wants to help people move more, feel better and smile more.

But since winning, the lovely messages have helped me pause and recognise what has grown from that passion.

From fitness classes to a community

I started Big Bums and Little Bums in 2019 with a simple aim: to make fitness welcoming and enjoyable, whatever your size, shape or fitness level.

I wanted people to feel comfortable walking through the door. To know they could take things at their own pace, have a laugh and enjoy moving without feeling judged.

Over the years, BBLB has become about so much more than the classes themselves. It’s the friendships, the familiar faces and the support people give each other. It’s watching someone arrive feeling nervous, then seeing them grow in confidence and help welcome the next new person.

That’s the part I’m most proud of.

Bringing people together in Melton

That same passion sits behind the Melton Menopause Network and Melton Fitness Festival.

Through the menopause network, we create space for honest conversations, shared experiences and support. Nobody should feel they have to face menopause alone.

Through the fitness festival, we bring local instructors, venues and participants together to try something new and celebrate the different ways we can enjoy movement.

I love living in Melton Mowbray, and I love seeing what happens when people come together and support one another.

A thank you to everyone who has been part of it

Running a business takes work, and there have certainly been moments of self-doubt along the way. Winning this award has reminded me to take a breath and acknowledge what I’ve built.

But BBLB wouldn’t be the community it is without the people who are part of it.

Whether you come to classes, bring a friend, share a post, support an event or offer a few encouraging words, thank you. Every bit of support matters.

I still feel more comfortable describing myself as someone who is passionate about helping people than as a business person. But if building a business around movement, friendship and community makes me one, then I’ll happily take it!

Fancy becoming part of our BBLB community? Have a look at our class timetable and come along. You don’t need to be fit to get started — there’s a warm welcome waiting for you.
